How to reach us

On the campus

As of October 1st, 2021 a new access control and parking system has been introduced at the campus. Details: New Tech Lane parking system.

After entering the campus through the main entrance and passing the access control barriers, go straight on at the roundabout. After 200m, you will pass the VIB-building on the left, immediately turn left after passing this building. Follow the 2-way road to the end and then turn left, you can park your car on the 2nd parking (C2) at your left (parking located between buildings 125 and 131). Our building, the iGent tower, is opposite the parking; CMST is on the 6th floor.

For overflow parkings, please have a look at the site map.

Public transport

There are frequent trains from Brussels airport to Ghent (mostly with a change of trains in Brussels). You can plan your journey on the web site of the Belgian Railway (NMBS).
Trains arrive at station 'Gent St Pieters'. There are taxis available at the main exit of the station. Alternatively, you can take a bus from the following list:
Bus Nr. Direction to take Platform
49 Herzele or Geraardsbergen Station 10 (front of station)
70 Zwijnaarde Vogelheide 24 (back of station)
71 Nazareth Dorp 24 (back of station)
72 Merelbeke Molenhoek 24 (back of station)

A plan of the station with the bus stops can be found on this page.
Get off after approximately 10 minutes, at the stop "Bollebergen" (next to the Don Bosco secondary school). From this stop, you still have a walk of 5 minutes ahead across the "Technologiepark". The site maps can also help you.

Shuttle Service

There is free shuttle service between the station 'Gent St Pieters' and the campus. The shuttle buses run every 5 minutes between 7u30 and 9u30 in the morning, and between 16u20 and 19u00 in the evening. There are 4 stops at the campus - the last stop (AA Tower) is the closest to the iGent tower (see map below). You need to show the driver a QR-code when you get on. Visitors can also get a QR code; they should follow the same procedure as daily users and create a QR code via this link: Shuttle Registration. In the registration process, the visitor should use his/her own email address and select "Company = Universiteit Gent".

Note: Starting October 20th, 2021 there will be roadworks at the campus. Check for related updates on the shuttle service on this page (major change starting December 31st, 2023!).

Airports

There is no airport in Ghent, but there are airports in four neighbouring cities:

airports

city Antwerp Brussels Lille (France) Ostend
website antwerpairport.be brusselsairport.be lille.aeroport.fr ost.aero
airline Cityjet (VLM) Brussels Airlines + many others
Air France TUI fly

  • By car from Brussels airport (Zaventem) to Ghent, it takes only 40 minutes under ideal circumstances, but due to the heavy traffic around Brussels, it is safer to plan a journey of 60 up to 90 minutes. By train from Brussels airport: see public transport.
  • Coming from France, it is often better to fly to Lille airport and rent a car there. From Lille airport to Ghent (Gand) by car takes about 60 minutes. There is a shuttle bus (20 minutes) from the airport to the Lille-Europe train station, where you can take a train to Ghent. See public transport.

  • The airport of Antwerp is conveniently small but has only a limited number of direct connections. From Antwerp airport to Ghent by car takes about 45 minutes.

  • The airport of Ostend is small and has only a limited number of connections. From Ostend airport to Ghent by car takes about 45 minutes.

Where to stay?

You'll find a list of hotels and other types of accommodation on the tourist information website of Ghent. There is also a list of excellent Bed&Breakfast facilities. There are no hotels at walking distance from our lab (although there is a luxury B&B at 2 km), so you will need to use a taxi, a rental car or the public transport. The hotel staff can probably help you with the correct bus lines.
